Finishing of Edges-Burr Management in Machining
Date : 24 November, 2023
Venue : IMTMA Technology Centre, Pune

INTRODUCTION

Burrs are unwanted and detrimental side effect of Turning, Milling, Drilling, Grinding and sheet metal cutting. They are a Safety hazard and they make the assembly of parts difficult post machining.

With clever machining strategy, product and process design it is possible to minimize burrs. However often there is need for specific deburring processes, incurring additional cost and loss of productivity.

Owing to shortfall on basic knowledge many times people call "Chip Breaking Failure" as excessive burr ; which has more to do with selection of proper cutting insert and speed – feed.

Keeping this in view, Indian Machine Tool Manufacturers' Association (IMTMA) is organising an offline/ classroom training on "Burr Minimization and Finishing of Edges" to enlighten about why and how the burrs are formed, how they could be minimized and what are the deburring technologies which may be used to get rid of burrs.
