INTRODUCTION

Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) is the ability of any Electrical & electronic equipment to function as per their intended use by limiting the unintentional generation, propagation and reception of electromagnetic energy. In layman terms, it is the ability to operate electrical equipment in close proximity with other equipment / machinery without causing any undue electromagnetic interference including physical damage.
Electronics today has become an Integral part of any industrial machinery. Use of PLC's, HMI interfaces, remote operation, etc, are becoming commonplace in the industries, automotive, railway, consumer goods, right upto medical and laboratory equipment. Electromagnetic interference and susceptibility can be life-threatening or can hamper safe & effective functioning of any electrical equipment.

To prevent this, electrical and electronic devices have to adhere to electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) guidelines and must bear the CE marking prominently. Any company intending to bring electrical products / machinery onto the Global market has to comply with the EMC directive 2014/30/EU. Though not mandatory In India at present, compliance to the EMC standard would be a proactive approach that can be incorporated while developing electrical products and machinery.

Keeping this in mind, IMTMA is conducting a training program on EMI/EMC – Global compliances for Electrical machinery.
