INTRODUCTION

Manufacturing drawing is an official document in manufacturing of any part or product as it communicates complete manufacturing information through graphical symbols from a design engineer. It is very important for any engineer to interpret in line with the designer's intent even without his presence anywhere across the globe. Drawing communicates all information intended by the designer to facilitate manufacturing like part geometry, size, dimensional and geometrical tolerances, surface finish, material, heat treatment and surface treatment.

Drawing errors (macro or minor) causes a huge loss of time and money to a company as the errors could be known only after the manufacturing. Despite any amount of perfect and sophisticated design is made, if manufacturing drawing is not compliant to global standards and made with insufficient information, the product either will fail or become expensive. Hence error free manufacturing CAD drawing is very important for achieving first time right product in any industry. Optimized orthographic views, dimensioning methodology with right tolerances, right material and heat treatment minimises or even eliminates the rejections and reduce cost.

Mr. Rajashekara HV is an Advisor to IMTMA. He has 28 years’ experience on Design and Development of Metal cutting machines from various industries like M/s HMT Machine Tools, M/s Johnson Electric International Limited, HongKong and 7 years as Senior Director, IMTMA Design Institute. He has overall experience of 35 Years from both shop floor and training.
