Gear Design - A Practical Approach

Gear Design - A Practical Approach

Date : 9 to 10 June, 2020   Location / Mode : Pune

INTRODUCTION

Power transmission is very important aspect in many industries. Gears drives are most important drives used in transmitting mechanical power. Gears and Gear drives are also one of the key components of all kinds of vehicles, machine tools, aircrafts, household appliances as well as a broad variety of industrial equipment.
Study of Gears, Gear terminology, correction, Quality, Strength calculations, Errors & its Measurement is a fairly complex data. Proper understanding about all these topics and selecting gears with required quality to the required application gives better productivity, long life and noise less drive for the industries.
Keeping this in view Indian Machine Tool Manufacturers' Association (IMTMA) is organising 2 day programme on Practical approach to Gears and Gear Design - Spur and Helical Gears

•Introduction to power transmission, Types ofmechanical drives.
•Gear drives, Applications, Advantages anddisadvantages.
•Classification of Gears and general features of eachtype of gear.
•Gear tooth profiles.
•Spur gears and helical gears.
•Gear Terminology/ Nomenclature and their detail study.
•Pitch line velocity, step up and step down drives.
•Gear Data to be indicated on the drawing sheet andexplanation.
•Design/Calculation of basic gear parameters.
•Gear design and strength calculations through typicalcase studies

•Gear Interference, undercutting.
•Gear Correction, calculation of correction andits effects.
•Contact ratio, tooth tip thickness and theircalculation
•Gear tooth thickness measurement, types andcalculations.
•Gear Quality, Errors and Tolerances.
•Backlash and its calculations.
•Materials for gears.
•Worm Gears and their Terminology
•Bevel gears.and their Terminology

This programme will benefit Engineers and personnel involved in Design, Production, Process Planning, Manufacturing functions of Gear manufacturing industries. Engineers from Machine Tool, Automobile & Auto ancillaries, Consumer Durables, Aerospace, Industry Machinery, Defence & Railway units, General Engineering and other Capital goods manufacturing industries also can participate.

This Program will be conducted by Mr. P. Aruna Kumar.
Mr. P. Aruna Kumar is a Post graduate Mechanical Engineer with Machine tool specialisation. He comes with over 36 years of domain expertise in Machine tool design, Assembly, Inspection and Testing.
He is former DGM, Designs and development, HMT Machine tool division, Bangalore. He has a rich experience in Gear design, Gear cutting machine design, Gear metrology and also other Machine tool Design. He has also worked in the field of assembly and testing of machine tools.
