EMI/EMC - Global Compliances for Electrical Machinery

EMI/EMC - Global Compliances for Electrical Machinery

Date : 3 March, 2022   Time : 1310 Hrs to 1730 Hrs   Location / Mode : Online

INTRODUCTION

Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) is the ability of any Electrical & electronic equipment to function as per their intended use by limiting the unintentional generation, propagation and reception of electromagnetic energy. In layman terms, it is the ability to operate electrical equipment in close proximity with other equipment / machinery without causing any undue electromagnetic interference including physical damage.

Electronics today has become an Integral part of any industrial machinery. Use of PLC's, HMI interfaces, remote operation, etc, are becoming commonplace in the industries, automotive, railway, consumer goods, right upto medical and laboratory equipment. Electromagnetic interference and susceptibility can be life-threatening or can hamper safe & effective functioning of any electrical equipment.

To prevent this, electrical and electronic devices have to adhere to electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) guidelines and must bear the CE marking prominently. Any company intending to bring electrical products / machinery onto the Global market has to comply with the EMC directive 2014/30/EU. Though not mandatory In India at present, compliance to the EMC standard would be a proactive approach that can be incorporated while developing electrical products and machinery.

Keeping this in mind, IMTMA is conducting a training program on EMI/EMC – Global compliances for Electrical machinery.

  • What is Electromagnetic compatibility?
  • The significance of EMC with respect to the machinery / devices used
  • The current Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive (2014/30/EU) - contents & salient features
  • Ensuring compliance to the directive
  • Standards on EMC- International / Indian
  • Overview of the testing facilities available in India
  • EMC requirement as seen in Non-EU countries

  • Understand the potential risks to electrical products / machinery due to EMI / EMC
  • Understand standards that equipment should comply with before sold in the market
  • Practices that an organization can employ to ensure the electrical machinery operates correctly under all reasonable scenarios

This programme will be conducted by Mr. M.G.Sathyendra, Consultant & Trainer – Global Certifications.

Mr. Sathyendra has been engaged into domestic & international certification for the last 35 years. He held senior positions in organizations like BIS, CSA International, Intertek, etc., He is engaged in Consultancy & Training activities for the last more than 5 years and associated with many certification agencies for third party inspections. He is also a trainer for ISO 9001, ISO/IEC 17025 for labs and ISO/IEC 17020 for inspection agencies. He is Chairman of the quality cell for IEEMA, Secretary for ISLE Karnataka, and a technical expert for NABL.

His executive career spans several organizations. He served with Bureau of Indian standards (BIS) for 17 years - (final posting as Director). He has handled Inspections and testing for UL-USA, SABS (South Africa), He started and headed the Indian operations for CSA Canada for 16years. For 7 years with Intertek heading Head-south & West regions.
