Online Training on 8D Problem Solving Methodology

Focus Areas

  • Thorough understanding of the problem from supplier point of view
  • Containment actions such that customer does not receive any more products with the same defect from parts in various stages of dispatch.
  • Root cause analysis (Technical root cause and System root cause) using various statistical tools for analysis and validation.
  • Implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Setting and meeting KPI targets for Efficiency and Effectiveness

Background

INTRODUCTION :

8D Problem Solving Process, also known as TOPSTeam Oriented Problem Solving Methodology, is a team oriented approach to solving critical problems in the production process.

Goals of this method are to find the root cause of the problem using statistical tools, develop containment actions to protect the customer and take preventive actions to prevent recurrence of the problem.

This method was developed by FORD MOTOR COMPANY in 1987 and comprises 8 steps, and follows the PDCA logic. FORD refers to their current variant as G8D (Global 8D). The Ford 8D manual is extensive and covers chapter by chapter how to go about addressing, quantifying and resolving engineering issues.

8D Problem Solving begins with a cross functional team and concludes with a successful demonstrated resolution of the problem.

Keeping this in mind, IMTMA is offering a 3 hour online program of 8D Prroblem Solving Methodology.

Key Takeaways

  • Develop effective approaches to finding the root cause, developing proper actions to eliminate root cause and implementing permanent corrective actions.
  • Explore the control systems that allowed the problem to escape. Understanding the Escape Point, which studies for the purpose of improving the ability of the Control System to detect the failure or cause when and if it should occur again (Detection).
  • Understand the prevention loop, which explores the systems that permitted the condition which allowed the failure and cause mechanism to exist in the first place (Prevention).
