Background

Design for Assembly (DFA) is an engineering methodology that focuses on reducing assembly time and associated assembly cost by way of optimizing the practical part counts and easing the assembly method. This is done all during the early design phases of the product lifecycle in collaboration with assembly engineer.

DFA is concerned with reducing the product's assembly time, costs, and complexities by minimizing the number of individual parts and assembly steps. Hence it helps in achieving quicker product development, reducing cost of product development and ensures the smooth and rapid transition from the design phase to the production phase. DFA helps designer to build quality into robust design at the least cost by avoiding error in assembly.

Keeping this in view, Indian Machine Tool Manufacturers' Association (IMTMA) is organizing an online programme on DFA (Design for assembly) in product development.

Key Takeaways

At the end of the program, the participants shall be able to:

  • Evaluate Design complexity, efficiency and  assembly metrics
  • Apply Boothroyd-Dewhurst DFA guide lines on projects
  • Learn design concepts for achieving Poka Yoke
