Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) – A Key Technology for Industrial Automation

Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) – A Key Technology for Industrial Automation

Date : 14 to 15 February, 2023   Time : 1310 Hrs to 1730 Hrs   Location / Mode : Online

INTRODUCTION

PLC (Programmable Logic Control) technology which evolved almost 5 decades back initially for Machine Tool Control PLC (Programmable Logic Control) technology which evolved almost 5 decades back initially for Machine Tool Control has over the years percolated almost all types of Industrial Machines for Automation Purpose. (Machine Tools / Packaging & Printing / Conveyers / Gantry Systems / Pumping Systems / Furnaces.. And so on) The Technology which started in the initial period for replacing hard-wired Contactor / Relay Logics by Software Program, has come over a long journey, and now (besides its basic work of Software Programmable Control) is a key for Plant Level Automation / Communication between various Equipments / Intelligent Process Controls / Automated Set up Changes for Batch Productions and so on.
For non-industrial applications, it is very widely used in the name of Embedded Controllers, and applications are in our day-to-day life equipments like Washing MCs / Dish Washers / Micro-Ovens / Vending MCs, etc. All the modern day Cars use Embedded Controllers for Detecting / Sensing / Monitoring various parameters in Vehicle, and certain extent controls .

It is essential to know the Core of PLC technology, and its Operational Powers. This Program is oriented towards the same, and will be conducted in an extremely simple manner to understand for all Engineers, regardless the branch of Engineering.

Keeping this in view, Indian Machine Tool Manufacturers' Association (IMTMA) is organising an online training on PLC - A Key Technology for Industrial Automation.

Note: This Program is essentially a Generic Technology program, and Not any brand specific

  • Concept of PLC Technology
  • Concept and Clear Understanding of Scan Cycles in working of PLC
  • Overview of commonly used HW (DI/DO and AI/AO Modules)
  • Overview of Software Instructions Set
  • Special Operational Features Special Operational Features
  • Communication and Networking
  • Working with Servo Systems
  • Clear understanding of PLC Vs CNC
  • Some Intelligent Application Areas
  • Limitations of Technology
  • Live Demo on PLC

After undergoing this program, the participants would be able to

  • Clearly understand the Role of PLC in their Automation applications / projects
  • Compare HW and SW Powers of various PLCs, for optimum selection
  • Imagine various Automation possibilities in forthcoming applications / projects…
  • Usage of PLC for doing fast and online calculations (of various types) to improve the Process
  • Visualise Interfacing of PLCs with other Automation Devices (PC / Servos / VFDs / Sensors etc)

This Program will be conducted by Mr. Anil Purohit and Ms. Lakshmi Kumari

Mr. Anil Purohit is an Electrical engineer with more than 40 years Industrial Experience in field of Machine Control Systems, Automation Products & Solutions, Machines & Test Rigs building, Intelligent and High Speed Motion Controls with Servo. Presently he is working as Director at Leonardo Automation India Pvt Ltd and ETA Technology Pvt. Ltd. Bangalore.

Ms. Lakshmi Kumari has done her BE in electronics and communication and Worked in HMT Machine Tools Limited, Bangalore for 36 years, in various levels from Engineer Trainee to DGM (D & D).  She has involved in Design & Development of various SPMs, Conventional machines, CNC Turning machines, CNC Grinding machines, Horizontal and Vertical Machining centers, Flow Forming Lathe etc. Also Experienced in Reconditioning / Upgradation of Conventional Machines to CNC Machines. She has trained many New Engineers, Graduate Apprentice Trainees and Customers on Relay Logic design, Introduction to CNC system and drives and PLC programming.
