Applied Welding Technology For Engineering Professionals

Applied Welding Technology For Engineering Professionals

Date : 21 to 22 September, 2026   Location / Mode : Bengaluru

Last date for registration 14 September 2026
INTRODUCTION

Welding is a critical manufacturing and joining technology used extensively in power, defence, aerospace, automotive, railways, heavy engineering, oil & gas, infrastructure and fabrication industries.

For engineering professionals, effective application of welding technology requires more than knowledge of welding processes. It involves understanding materials, weldability, process selection, welding parameters, joint design, welding procedures, defects, inspection, quality requirements and applicable standards.

Keeping this in view, Indian Machine Tool Manufacturers' Association (IMTMA) is organizing a 2 days offline training programme on “Applied Welding Technology for Engineering Professionals”.

The programme combines welding science, engineering principles, practical considerations, quality control and applicable international standards, enabling participants to make better technical decisions related to welded fabrication.

Welding Processes & Applications

  • SMAW, GMAW/MIG-MAG, GTAW/TIG, FCAW, RAW and SAW
  • Process selection and industrial applications
  • Welding equipment and consumables
  • Welding parameters and their influence on weld quality

Materials & Weldability

  • Carbon and low-alloy steels
  • Stainless steels and duplex stainless steels
  • Carbon Equivalent and weldability
  • Preheating, interpass temperature and PWHT

Welding Engineering

  • Joint design and welding symbols
  • Welding positions and techniques
  • Distortion and residual stresses

Welding Quality & Inspection

  • Common welding defects and their causes
  • Visual inspection & Weld acceptance criteria
  • NDT methods and their applications
  • Welder qualification and procedure qualification

Standards & Quality Systems

  • ISO 3834 – Quality requirements for fusion welding
  • ISO 15614 – Welding Procedure Qualification
  • ISO 9606-1 – Welder Qualification
  • Relevant AWS/ASME requirements

At the end of the programme, participants will be able to:

  • Select appropriate welding processes and consumables for different applications.
  • Identify major welding defects, their causes and preventive measures.
  • Interpret welding symbols, joint configurations and basic welding documentation.
  • Apply relevant ISO/AWS/ASME requirements in practical situations.
  • Improve welding quality, productivity and reliability in their organisations.
  • Make technically sound decisions when dealing with welding-related manufacturing and inspection issues.

The programme is particularly suitable for:

  • Mechanical, Production, Metallurgy and Manufacturing Engineers
  • Welding Engineers and Welding Supervisors
  • Welding Inspectors
  • Project Engineers and Site Engineers
  • Fabrication and Manufacturing Professionals
  • Professionals involved in welding procedure qualification and welder qualification
  • Technical consultants and trainers

This programme will be conducted by, IMTMA Subject Matter Expert.

He is an International Welding Engineer (IWE) and retired officer of the Indian Skill Development Service (ISDS), has over 40 years of professional experience in welding technology, skill development, training, industrial inspection and technical consultancy. He served for more than 25 years with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, including as Joint Director-cum-Principal, with expertise in vocational training and competency development.
